Biography

Kristi Shaw is an inspired and influential facilitator, with the ability to bring diverse people and groups together for collaborative, strategic, and cohesive action. Her mission is in creating meaningful connection for resourcing and empowering wellbeing, to move from struggling survival to thriving lives as an individual, a community, or an organization.

Kristi’s Masters research project, creating a social approach to anxiety using appreciative inquiry, has received accolades, won a Bold Innovators Scholarship, and has been published in the Unitec E-Press. Kristi is a Narrative Therapist, Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator, and Reiki Master, working for personal, social, and organizational change.

Kristi is using appreciative inquiry with parents, who are caring for their child with anxiety disorder, in therapeutic group work that creates connection, community support, and inspired action to generate a positive and sustainable difference in their and their family’s lives.

Kristi is also using appreciative inquiry as the Auckland Regional Coordinator for the NZ Disability Support Network. After some daring conversations in one of our regional network meetings, we established an Engagement and Partnership Core Group that went on to co-create an Accessibility: Beyond Intention Summit with a variety of stakeholders present: Disabled People, Whanau/Family, Disability Providers, Representatives from Auckland Council, Ministry of Disabled People, Ministry of Social Development, Waitemata DHB, and the Auckland Disability Advisory Panel. Our collective call to action was to have an online centralized hub of resources and information that everyone knew about and utilized. From this, we manifested the National NZDSN Hui (meeting): Online Centralized Hubs for all members from across the country to learn, engage, and utilize the current hubs that are available. Information from this Hui will be utilized for further calls to action as we lean into the changes of living Enabling Good Lives in our communities. Appreciative Inquiry continues to connect and inspire for generative future-focused cohesive action that people are proud to be part of and contribute to.

If you are looking for facilitation to help create strategic change in your organization or community, to bring everyone on board for inspired and cohesive action that makes a difference, contact  kristi@totallyconnected.co.nz. Kristi also supports individuals using narrative therapy and appreciative inquiry for creating the change they want to see in their lives.

The experience Kristi brings to her facilitation and practice includes: community collaboration in action, win-win innovations in management and community, establishing strategic and collaborative networks, lecturer/TA/facilitation/guide, and developing leadership teams to address bullying and online harm through pro-social initiatives.

Accessibility: Beyond Intention Summit 2022

This summit was designed for the Auckland Disability Sector, to bring all the stakeholders together to take accessibility beyond good intentions and into cohesive, effective and sustainable actions. There was a wide variety of stakeholders present for two half day summits.

Two things stood out for this incredible process and regional sector opportunity:

1. The increase in the level of energy and commitment that grew amongst the variety of stakeholders for identifying their collective strengths and values, generating their ‘energized intentions’, and using these together to co-create cohesive action.

2.  The strength and commitment of the Core Engagement and Partnership Group – our ‘Champions’. We started as a group who didn’t know each other; who dared to be part of the changes that were happening sector-wide. We met four times by Teams, while I was coordinating and planning collaboratively behind the scenes. During the summit, I facilitated while the Champions supported each group table and the overall set up and coordination of the day. We developed the most incredible bond, that continued strongly beyond the summit and into the following year with the manifesting of our ‘energized intentions’ – our call to action.

This regional summit’s call to action was to have an online centralized hub of resources and information available to everyone. This has manifested into the National NZDSN Hui (Special Meeting) showcasing three unique centralized hubs with the intention of raising awareness, developing connection and partnership, and creating greater resourcing and utilization across the sector.

Collective voice will be gained again, with further cohesive calls to action as we head into another regional meeting, national conference, and election year.
