About Karen

Full Name:

Karen Pratt

Biography

The paradigm of Appreciative Inquiry informs my style of being and working. I believe that people develop when they focus on their strengths and what makes them most alive. I believe in peoples’ innate ability to be resourceful and creative and whole. I am most alive when I am training and facilitating or coaching within environments rich in diversity.

My qualification as a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst in the educational field informs my style of facilitating and enabling learning. Transactional Analysis is a set of models useful for people to understand their personality, the meaning they make of who they are in the world, as well as their style of relating and communicating. I am presently co-chair of the International Board of Certification of the International Transactional Analysis Association, maintaining high standards and rigour in the examination and certification of Transactional Analysts within 39 countries across the world.

Holding a PCC credential with the International Coach Federation, I bring to my coaching a thorough embodiment of the ICF’s core competencies and an Appreciative approach. I am constantly immersed in the competencies both in my own coaching practice and in training coaches in South Africa and India as a trainer with an international coach training company, Coaching Development. I am trained as a supervisor and love working with other professionals offering a safe space for them to reflect on their work, ensuring good ethical practice and ongoing development.

I live in Cape Town, South Africa, but work internationally online. I have a particular connection with professionals in India and at present run a professional coach training with a blended group from India and Africa. I supervise both individuals and groups, and run Transactional Analysis training groups with trainees in India, Africa and London.

I love the creativity of combining Appreciative Inquiry and coaching and am one of the developers of the Appreciative Inquiry Coaching Training (AICT) which runs in the US and South Africa.

I bring to my work more than 20 years of experience working with people from many countries. I am serious about my own ongoing development, especially immersing myself in activities that strengthen my connection with myself. It’s out of a sense of being and groudedness that I best connect with others in their development.
