Biography
Dr. Denise Henning is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She has a career in higher education that has spanned nearly 25 years in both the United States and Canada, as well as serving as graduate faculty in New Zealand. Denise is Cherokee & Mississippi Choctaw, born in Creek County in Oklahoma. Dr. Henning currently serves as the Director of the UNCW/3C Collaborative and is a professor of Community College Leadership and Higher Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s, Watson College of Education.
Dr. Henning’s research spans Appreciative Inquiry and AI frameworks in higher education, Indigenous women and students, Indigenous children’s math and science, strengths-based leadership, women in leadership and believes in asking the right questions and being part of the solution. She has earned a reputation for cultivating and sustaining positive relationships, building collaborative teams, and energizing people in ways that foster their innovative spirit.
